[ARCHIVED] Commissioners approve changes to zoning ordinance during Feb. meeting

Zoning Ordinance

The Commissioners held a public hearing Wednesday to receive feedback on proposed changes to the county’s zoning ordinance.

Planning Director Michael Lyon said that the change will add three definitions to the ordinance in response to specific requests from property owners.

Definitions were added for “contractor yard,” “oil field service yard” as well as sandblasting and painting.

Lyon said that the sandblasting and painting use will be permitted in the ACR and Industrial zoning districts. The remaining definitions will be permitted in ACR, Business and Industrial.

He added that the regulations are in line with language already in the ordinance regarding sawmills and that the Planning Commission recommended the changes.

The commissioners approved the change during the meeting.

The commissioners also approved an agreement with Optical Storage Solutions for the Register & Recorder’s Office.

Warren County Register & Recorder Lisa Bunkhouse said that the department transitioned to new software about a year ago.

“The community has greater access to land records,” she said.

The agreement approved Wednesday is for the software and maintenance of that new system.

Burkhouse said public land records will continue to be expanded in the coming months as land are digitized and archived.

“Those will be available online,” she said, so that genealogists, abstractors and attorneys will be “able to access from everywhere.”

Commissioner Dan Glotz said that the expanded access has been requested over the years.

“Accessibility of those records (is) a big improvement,” he said.
