[ARCHIVED] Election Board to Reissue Absentee Ballots

 October 23, 2023

Warren, PA – The Warren County Board of Elections will reissue all absentee ballots this week due to a clerical error on ballots mailed recently. During the week starting Monday, October 16, 233 voters received absentee ballots with an incorrect request to vote for “no more than three commissioners.” Voters cannot vote for more than two commissioners in a general election in Pennsylvania. This error affected only absentee ballots. No regular mail-in ballots were affected.

The County Election Department will mail replacement absentee ballots and the official mail-in ballots on October 24th and 25th. Every voter who requested an absentee ballot will receive a new ballot. All mail ballots will have the correct instructions for the Commissioner’s race.

Warren County Board of Elections member Jeff Eggleston stated, “This error is unfortunate but should have a minimal effect. The race for commissioner is currently unchallenged on the ballot as there are three candidates for three elected positions.”

The Warren County Board of Elections asks that voters complete their ballots and mail them back in using the provided Declaration Envelope or return the ballot in person to the Warren County Courthouse, 204 Fourth Avenue, Warren, PA 16365.

Absentee ballot voters who cannot return the revised ballot but have already returned the original ballot will have their ballot counted as usual; however, if they voted for three candidates for Commissioner, their commissioner vote will not count. All other votes will. Therefore, the Election Board urges absentee voters to turn in a revised ballot.

All voters can vote for no more than two candidates in the Commissioners’ race.
